Decay-Create
Sometimes patients require more care from nurses, doctors and carers than they could get access to. When such a situation arises it becomes highly imperative for such patients to be admitted in hospital. The patients medical condition usually determines the length of time one stays in hospital, it could vary from a couple of hours to days and months.
When a patient recovers from his/her medical condition, the next step is to get discharged from hospital. Discharge from hospital is a process that involves cooperation between patient, hospital staff, local authorities, primary care providers such as your GP, independent and voluntary sectors. The aim of the process is to ensure that you leave hospital when, and as soon as, you are ready to do so, and that you have everything you need for a full recovery when you return home. It should be a happy occasion.
Virtual ‘Experiential’ Environment
This virtual environment has been created to simulate this process of admission and discharge from a hospital. Metaphoric objects have been used to depict this experience. The patients have been categorised using avatars which are assigned different colours.
The green avatars represent the patients that have recovered and have been discharged from hospital. The red avatars represent the patients that are still ill in hospital and have to stay back. The small avatars represent the doctors and disease pathogens respectively.
The red avatars represent the patients that are still ill in hospital and have to stay back. The small avatars represent the doctors (white boids) and disease pathogens (red boids) respectively.
The interaction with this environment will be based on keyboard entries. When different keys are pressed a different simulation is observed
Further Application
This environment can be extended to include remote user interaction, e.g. motion tracking, proximity sensors, shadow tracking or vocal tracking.
Most of the interactions with the environment can be further explored to include more interactions. The idea is that visitors will go home with a memory of the hospital after demolition.
